More than 60 Global Studies University students participated in “Steer Your Career,” an interactive workshop designed to support their career planning and professional development.
The workshop was coordinated by Asma Omar, Career Placement and Alumni Affairs Officer, in collaboration with INJAZ UAE. The initiative was organized through the Office of Career Placement and Alumni Affairs, a unit of Academic Affairs.
Participants included first- and second-year students from the MA in Global African Studies. The workshop was also open to students in the Ph.D. in Global Studies.
Mohamed Ismail, Manager of Masar Career Excellence at Ajman University, delivered the workshop on August 27, 2026, in his capacity as an INJAZ UAE volunteer, alongside Ala Abu Lail, Area Manager at INJAZ UAE.
Students began by reflecting on their interests, strengths, and professional goals using the Ikigai framework. They then received practical guidance on preparing effective résumés, developing action statements, writing personal statements, and approaching admissions and employment interviews.
Several second-year MA students contributed to the interactive activities. Abeer Abu Shmeis drew on her experience to demonstrate how action verbs can strengthen the experience section of a résumé, while Amer Ahmed participated in the personal statement exercise. Lubacha Deus and Nouf Aljahdami took part in mock interviews, responding to situational questions about teamwork, managing disagreements, and navigating challenging professional relationships.
“Through this workshop, we aimed to provide students with practical tools and meaningful opportunities to strengthen their career readiness,” said Asma Omar, Career Placement and Alumni Affairs Officer. “Our collaboration with INJAZ UAE enabled students to reflect on their strengths, develop essential professional skills, and connect their academic experience with their future career aspirations.”
“Career development is an important part of the support we provide with students throughout their studies,” said Sara Majdi, Director of Academic Affairs at Global Studies University. “This workshop helped students identify their strengths, communicate their experience more effectively, and build the skills and confidence to prepare for their next career steps.”
The workshop forms part of GSU’s continuing student-support initiatives, connecting postgraduate education and research with career planning, professional development, and preparation for opportunities beyond the University.
