Mantate Queeneth Mlotshwa, a Master of Arts student in Global African Studies at The Africa Institute, Global Studies University, specializing in Diplomacy and Africa’s International Relations, participated in the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx) held at the University of Oxford from June 8–12, 2026.

The anniversary brought together scholars and fellows from across Africa and the University of Oxford to reflect on a decade of academic collaboration and knowledge exchange aimed at expanding access to Oxford for African researchers and strengthening intellectual engagement between African institutions and the University.

As an alumna of the Mastercard Foundation AfOx scholarship, Mantate contributed to storytelling and communications during the anniversary week, documenting key discussions, events, and institutional exchanges.

During the week, she also shared insights from her current studies in Global African Studies at The Africa Institute, Global Studies University, with a focus on African governance, diplomacy, and Africa’s engagement with global institutions.

Mantate’s participation provided an opportunity to engage with a wider community of African scholars and practitioners while situating her academic work within broader conversations on global governance, African agency, and international relations.

Mantate’s research focuses on African women’s leadership, Africa’s agency in an evolving global order, and global economic governance, which sits within the wider MA program’s intentional exploration of Africa in the continent and in the world. Read her student profile
