The Africa Institute of the Global Studies University is seeking applications for the (open rank) position of Assistant to Full Professor in African and African Diaspora Literature and/or Cultural Studies within the Department of Humanities.

Key Responsibilities

The Africa Institute invites applications for a full-time, 9-month faculty position in African and/or African Diaspora Literary and Cultural Studies.
 

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach two graduate courses per semester (four per academic year)
  • Supervise master’s theses and doctoral dissertations
  • Provide mentorship and academic guidance to graduate students
  • Engage in an active program of scholarly research and publication
  • Participate in committees and contribute to institutional service
  • Contribute to the development of an innovative, interdisciplinary curriculum

Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Hold a Ph.D. in African and/or African Diaspora literary and cultural studies (or a related field such as English, Literature, African American Studies, or Cultural Studies) at the time of appointment
  • Demonstrate excellence in graduate-level teaching and scholarship
  • Preference will be given to candidates who:
  • Have expertise in African and/or African Diaspora literature and culture, across colonial and post-colonial periods
  • Specialize in regions other than East Africa
  • Demonstrate knowledge of critical race studies within an interdisciplinary framework
  • Exhibit a strong critical engagement with the evolving literature and cultural production of the African world
