Program: Ph.D. in Global Studies
Specialization: Cultural, Visual, and Literary Studies
Intake: Fall 2026
Sofia El Khyari is a Moroccan Ph.D. student in Global Studies at Global Studies University, specializing in Cultural, Visual, and Literary Studies. A filmmaker, artist, and animator, she explores memory, cultural heritage, identity, and the representation of history through visual culture. Her doctoral research examines the relationship between cinema, collective memory, and cultural resistance in colonial and postcolonial Morocco. Developed alongside a feature film project, her work combines archival investigation, historical inquiry, and filmmaking. Through feminist and decolonial approaches, Sofia seeks to understand how artistic practices preserve, reinterpret, and reclaim marginalized histories and cultural narratives.
