Alia AlShamsi is an Emirati-Italian Ph.D. student in Global Studies (Fall 2026) at Global Studies University, specializing in Cultural, Visual, and Literary Studies. Her research examines monsoon trade routes and their role in carrying folklore across seas, with an emphasis on perspectives and narratives rooted in the region. Drawing on her experience in photography, writing, curatorial practice, and cultural programming, she explores the relationships between mobility, storytelling, and cultural exchange. Through her doctoral studies, Alia seeks to deepen understanding of how maritime connections have shaped shared stories and cultural knowledge.
