Abdou Diouf, a second-year Master of Arts student in Global African Studies at The Africa Institute, Global Studies University, has published a research article in Pluriversal International Relations.
The article, “African ethics and the environmental question: towards a relational ecological praxis,” examines how African moral traditions can inform responses to environmental crises. It argues that relationships among people, communities, and the natural world offer ways to rethink the separation of nature and culture in environmental thought. The article appears in the journal’s first volume, published by Bristol University Press.
Diouf also considers what these ideas could mean in practice, from approaches to conservation that account for local communities to urban environmental justice and agroecology. His article addresses the structural conditions that contribute to ecological harm, including racial capitalism.
From Senegal, Diouf is a member of the first cohort of GSU’s MA in Global African Studies and specializes in Museum and Critical Heritage Studies. His publication contributes to interdisciplinary conversations connecting African philosophy, ethics, and environmental questions.
