Sangaré is often referred to as "The Songbird of Wassoulou" where Wassoulou is a historical region south of the Niger River, where the music descends from an age-old traditional song, often accompanied by a calabash.

Sangaré’s music draws from genres such as rock, funk, and soul, while maintaining a distinctly African sound.
