MA in Global African Studies

Our Master of Arts (MA) in Global African Studies, offered by The Africa Institute at Global Studies University, engages with some of the most pressing questions in the study of global Africa across the humanities and social sciences.

This program is accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), U.A.E.

Program Overview:

The MA in Global African Studies integrates the humanities and social sciences to provide a comprehensive understanding of global Africa. Students can choose from three tracks:

Museum and Critical Heritage Studies
Diplomacy and Africa’s International Relations
Afro-Arab Relations

The interdisciplinary curriculum covers major thematic fields such as intellectual thought, the Indian Ocean world, the Muslim world, gender studies, feminist futures, and diaspora studies. Students will also complete three semesters of coursework in an African language and receive a certificate upon completion.

Program Structure and Requirements:

Duration: Typically 36 credit hours
Core Courses: 6 credit hours of Common Core, 18 credit hours of Specialization Core
Electives: 6 credit hours, chosen in consultation with an advisor
Language Requirement: 9 credit hours in an African language
Capstone Project: 6 credit hours, including a written thesis or equivalent project, evaluated by an examination committee and defended in a viva format
