Ph.D. Student Kate Qazi Presents at International TESOL Conference

Kate Qazi, a Ph.D. student in Global Studies with a focus on Cultural, Visual, and Literary Studies, presented her paper “Localization in the ESL Classroom” at the TESOL Conference 2025, hosted by Webster University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on October 10–11, 2025.

Her presentation examined the localization of language teaching materials and reflected on strategies for developing contextually grounded curricula. Kate’s work engaged with broader discussions on language colonization and decolonization in English language teaching, highlighting the importance of adapting curricula to local contexts while remaining globally informed.

Kate is advised by Binyam Sisay Mendisu, Professor of African Languages and Linguistics and Associate Dean, and Philathia Bolton, Associate Professor of African and African Diaspora Literature and Cultural Studies at The Africa Institute, Global Studies University.

Her participation underscores the international reach and impact of research conducted at Global Studies University.
